I have often moaned in the past that fans at some athletic venues are often too laid back and do not lend a helping hand to the home team verbally.
That was not the case Friday night in the Mac-Hi gym.
The small student section in attendance displayed a fair amount of enthusiasm during the Pioneers’ boys and girls basketball games with Greater Oregon League rival Baker City.
The girls stayed close until late in the fourth quarter, while the boys were overwhelmed from the get-go.
What was a pleasant surprise to me, though, was that the student section stayed enthused during the boys game, though Mac-Hi was hopelessly behind throughout and ended up losing 89-45.
These students need to be commended for making their voices heard – more than I ever thought possible in light of the dismal seasons that both teams had.
