Deserved

Editors Note: This is a post from Roy Elia, who is still making the transition to the new blog.

A couple of coaching moves in college football caught my eye on Tuesday.
First, Steve Spurrier was given a contract extension by South Carolina.
Second, Luke Fickell will remain at Ohio State.
Spurrier had his contract extended by two seasons, and deservedly so. The Gamecocks posted a 10-2 record this season and are on their way to the Capital One Bowl, where they will face Nebraska Jan. 2.
As far as Fickell is concerned, I want to commend new Ohio State head man Urban Meyer for announcing that Fickell will remain on the coaching staff next season as the Buckeyes’ defensive coordinator. Fickell hung tough this year as interim head coach despite all of Ohio State’s off-the-field distractions. The Buckeyes will oppose Florida on Jan. 2 in the Gator Bowl.
It’s so nice to hear some positive news from the coaching ranks for a change – much nicer than stories about recent coaching dismissals, I can assure you.
