It’s been quite a start for the Walla Walla Bruins.
The Class AA American Legion baseball team, coached by Wa-Hi mentors Ryan Carter and Keith Gradwohl, extended its winning streak to 10 games on Monday with a sweep of the Yakima Blues at Murr Sports Park.
Walla Walla showed its ability to run away and hide from its opposition in Monday’s opener by jumping out to an 8-1 lead after four innings of play and coasting to a 10-6 victory.
In game two, the Bruins kept their cool after squandering a three-run lead in the sixth inning. They pushed a run across in the eighth to eke out a 6-5 triumph.
Offensively, the Bruins banged out 28 hits on the day. Walla Walla had six players register multiple safeties in game one and four in the nightcap.
Yakima’s Peppers now stand in the way of a 12-game winning streak. They host Walla Walla tonight at 5:30.
Looking ahead for just a moment, the Bruins host their annual summer tournament the final weekend of this month. It will provide local baseball fans with the opportunity to witness what promises to be exciting youth baseball.
And the way the Bruins have been playing lately, exciting would seem to be a prophetic description.
