A tough weekend
Just one of four hardball teams from our area returned to the valley this weekend on a high note after competing in state championship baseball and softball competition.

Heid, Hiatt contribute to WCC champion Bulldogs
West Coach Conference regular-season baseball champion Gonzaga clinched the WCC tournament title and an NCAA tournament berth on Saturday with a 14-3 rout of Loyola Marymount in game two of the conference’s best-of-three series in Spokane.
The Bulldogs’ program will be making its fifth appearance in the NCAA field and first since 1981.

It broke my heart this past week when Walla Walla Community College severed ties with head baseball coach Mike Cummins.
Cummins, who headed the Warrior program for six seasons, was informed by school officials just days ago that his counseling position was being eliminated due to budgetary reasons.
