Bobbi’s big night
This past Saturday night was an historic one for Walla Walla Community College women’s basketball.
The Warriors’ 80-44 triumph at Wenatchee Valley was the 200th for head coach Bobbi Hazeltine at WWCC.
Hazeltine took over the Walla Walla program prior to the 1999-2000 campaign. In the previous eight seasons, the Warriors had wallowed through seven that ended with sub-.500 [...]
What a difference
What a difference a period of 10 days have made for the University of Nevada-Las Vegas men’s basketball team.
The Rebels, pre-season favorites to win the Mountain West Conference, suffered an unexpected 71-69 loss at Colorado State on Jan. 14 to fall to 1-2 in league. This after a loss at Texas Christian the previous Saturday.
Ironically, the [...]
More about nothing
While watching NFL playoff games on Sunday, a statistic flashed across the screen early during the NFC Championship game that indicated that playoff teams in this postseason were 2-6 when scoring first.
At the end of the day, the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers improved that record to 4-6.
Both teams scored early in the opening quarter of [...]
What goes around, comes around
The New York Giants knocked off a top seed – the Dallas Cowboys – in last season’s National Football Conference playoffs on their way to the National Football League championship.
On Sunday at Giants Stadium, it was New York that entered its playoff game with the Philadelphia Eagles as the NFC’s top seed.
New season. Similar outcome.
Philadelphia, which did [...]
Reed turns momentum
During his NFL career, Baltimore defensive back Ed Reed has made his share of game-changing plays.
One such sequence unfolded during the Ravens’ playoff game at Miami on Sunday.
Reed returned one of four Chad Pennington interceptions 64 yards for a touchdown late in the second quarter of Baltimore’s 27-9 romp. The pick was one of two on the day for Reed and [...]
Nothing
Arizona and San Diego proved the regular season means one thing during NFL playoff action on Saturday.
It means nothing.
The Cardinals, who dropped four of their final six regular-season games, bested Atlanta – which entered the game as one of the league’s hottest teams and slightly favored – 30-24 before a loud crowd at University of [...]
They belonged
If there was any doubt that the Utah Utes deserved to be in a Bowl Championship Series game, it was laid to rest Friday night in the Louisiana Superdome.
Quarterback Brian Johnson riddled the Alabama defense for 336 yards and three touchdowns in Utah’s 31-17 triumph in the Sugar Bowl to close out a 13-0 season.
Utah [...]
Pac-10 Rules
Many of the so-called experts suggested in the latter stages of the college football season and prior to the unfolding of bowl activity that the Pacific-10 Conference was not as strong as it had been in past years.
The league’s bowl representatives – Arizona, California, Oregon, Oregon State and USC – proved them wrong.
U of A got [...]
