Zoo spokesman Tom Gillespie said today that the chimp’s mother had been carrying the baby chimp upside down and would sometimes lay the infant on the ground and walk away from it. He said officials will decide whether to allow Maki to keep the baby or if zoo staff will raise it. (AP Photo/North Carolina Zoo, Kat Ahern)
